October 1st: International Day of Older People - German Education Server

October 1st is the UN International Day of Older Persons.

As  part of its  portfolio, the Federal Ministry of Families,  Youth, Women and Senior  Citizens offers information about  older citizens and demographic change in Germany.

October the 21st is a day respecting older persons. On this International Day of Older Persons, let’s commit to strengthen care and support systems that honour the dignity of older persons and caregivers.  

The umbrella organisation of senior citizens lobbying for good care and life. Supports the participation of older people in society. represents the interests of older generations in Germany. It stands up for active, self-determined and healthy ageing in social security. In a colourful and diverse society BAGSO promotes a differentiated image of old age.

The Federal Ministry co-ordinates policy-making and initiates legislation in the areas of gender equality, family affairs, childcare, child and youth protection and policy,  older citizens. The website offers basic information as well as links to sites  with some useful tools, e.g. benefit calculators for parents.

An international network of organisations that offer exchange and networking opportunities to senior citizens, with links covering aspects of caregiving, dementia. SEVEN is an international network of organisations promoting senior volunteer exchanges.

Education should be available to everyone – even older persons.

AGE is an EU-wide platform of networking organisations working with senior citizens, to lobby interests, host events etc.

This brochure addresses the topic of suicide in old age and offers support.
