The project explores different aspects of student mobility behaviour. On the one hand, attention is paid to students who have realised a temporary enrolment period abroad during their studies. On the other hand, the focus is on students who have not (yet) realised such a stay abroad and who are either planning or not planning to gain experience abroad. One of the main aims of the study is to identify factors which deter students from studying abroad temporarily and how these factors differ between countries and between different types of students within these countries. Student mobility behaviour is related to students´ attributes and their perception of mobility obstacles. The comparison of student groups and countries should contribute to the scientific discussion about mobility obstacles. Furthermore, the knowledge emerging from the study may be relevant for developing new and reviewing existing measures and programmes designed to foster student enrolment abroad. This international comparison is based on data from five national student surveys (Austria, Germany, Poland, Switzerland and The Netherlands) which were carried out between 2009 and 2010. Publication of final report: June 2012.
