NaWik was founded in 2012 as a non-profit organisation. Its shareholders are the Klaus Tschira Foundation (KTS) and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). NaWik supports scientists in communicating the goals, methods, results and challenges of their work to the society in a comprehensible way. In practical trainings, workshops and e-learning courses, scientists are taught the basics of good science communication. In addition to the basic seminar on science communication, the range of seminars also includes trainings on visualization, writing, social media, evaluation of science communication, science communication in grant proposals, media training, etc.
