The Lebanese Association for Educational Studies - english information
Lebanon
The Lebanese Association for Educational Studies (LAES) is a non- governmental, non-profit society established in Beirut in 1995. Its thirty eight members (as of March 2003) are university members and/ or education experts from various fields: education, math education, language education, social studies education, curriculum, sociology of education, economy of education, educational planning, educational administration, and various others. They pertain to different institutions in Lebanon and come from different cultural backgrounds. An important achievement of the association was the communication and exchange of ideas and knowledge among members from different experiences and backgrounds. In addition to that, the association served to establish academic links with various members of the scientific community and institutions, whether at the Lebanese, Arab, or international levels. Actually the academic productions of LAES have become the major reference for information about education in the country. On its website the LAES gives information on current research projects, on its publications and on its members and their respective research interests. A short overview on the Lebanese education system offers, above all, statistical data on the number of students (1999-2002) and the number of educational institutions on each educational level.
