Equity and recognition are the linchpin of national and international debates around inclusion. A characteristic feature is that the terms are not systematically explicated and are defined differently. This has consequences for science and practice. Depending on the definition, inclusion can be analyzed and evaluated differently and different forms of social inequality can come into view.

Marion Fourcade is a professor of sociology at the University of California at Berkeley. In her book, The Ordinal Society, she addresses new forms of social stratification and morality in the digital economy.
