Arriving in the German education system - brief analysis of participation of refugee children and juveniles (2019)
Using statistical data from several sources, the author analyses the arrival of refugee children and juveniles in the German education system as of the second half of 2016. Whilst a majority were enroledin school, by comparison with their peers they attended lower school grades and tracks. Apart from a lack of German language skills, their family situation and interrupted educational trajectories constituted additional burdens. Syrian children and juveniles were better positioned than peers from Eastern European countries.
