Using statistical data from several sources, the author analyses the arrival of refugee children and juveniles in the German education system as of the second half of 2016. Whilst a majority were enroledin school, by comparison with their peers they attended lower school grades and tracks. Apart from a lack of German language skills, their family situation and interrupted educational trajectories constituted additional burdens. Syrian children and juveniles were better positioned than peers from Eastern Eeuropean countries.
