During the fourth quarter of 2016, the International Student Barometer (ISB) 2016 was carried out at 37 higher education institutions in Germany. This report provides a summary of the research findings as well as the main conclusions and suggestions for further improvement, set against a global and continental European benchmark. The main message is that internationalisation at German higher education has progressed over time. However, there still seems to be some room left for improvement when Germany is viewed in a global context. Looking at how international students recommend their international study experience, we see a positive development over time, e.g. regarding integration into local communities. Best-practice examples from German universities are given.
