Die Kommission Psychoanalytische Pädagogik bildet eine Plattform für den disziplinären und interdisziplinären Austausch zu psychoanalytisch-pädagogischer Theoriebildung und Forschung in der Erziehungswissenschaft. Sie widmet sich der Weiterentwicklung der Disziplin und befördert den Austausch zu angrenzenden Feldern. Mit Blick auf die Profession befasst sie sich mit dem Wert psychoanalytischer Betrachtungen für die Professionalisierung in zahlreichen pädagogischen und therapeutischen Feldern und Institutionen.
