Abiturprüfung
Examination leading to the Allgemeinen Hochschulreife usually taken upon conclusion of the upper Gymnasium level (gymnasiale Oberstufe). In the Abitur examination, candidates are examined in 4 subjects. In some Länder, candidates are examined in a fifth subject or a particular achievement (besondere Lernleistung) is incorporated in the examination. Each of the following three subject areas must be represented: languages, literature and the arts; social sciences; mathematics, natural sciences and technology.
