The Bologna conferences. Background documents

The Bologna Process was initiated by the so called "Sorbonne declaration" in 1998. An increase of the cooperation of European higher education bodies was apparent earlier, in the "Lisbon convention" for the accreditation of higher education qualifications. Starting from the meeting of the European ministers of Education in Bologna in 1999 there have been biennial follow-up conferences where the progress was assessed and objectives for the next stage were agreed upon: Prague (2001); Berlin (2003); Bergen (2005), London (2007), and Leuven / Louvain-la-Neuve (2009). To assess the achievements of the Bologna-process, an extraordinary Ministerial Anniversary Conference was hold in Budapest / Vienna (2010).
